Our neighbors
are a wonderful retired couple. They always greet me with a big smile and we
talk for a few minutes. The usual talk, about the weather, their upcoming
holidays , etc. They are always very polite and soft-spoken. It’s not easy to
be in a marriage for as long as they have especially when one comes from a
totally different culture. Their marriage brought together a Dutch and a Spanish
family.
Ram and I have been happily married for almost 10 years now and I hope that
we can stay the same for long as they
have. Its sometimes really sweet to see them together. They play tennis together,
cook together, make sure their house is nice and tidy, have a good social life,
travel, etc. I’m sure they’ve had their fair share of arguments and craziness, but what matters is that they
are still together ( both well over 65) and love each other dearly.
I think all
of us married couples want the same out of life. Happiness and togetherness. Someone
who is there for us no matter what and who loves us unconditionally no matter
where we come from or who we are. Don’t we?! So, does it matter that my neighbors
are gay?! It doesn’t bother me one bit.
If we look beyond our own narrow minds and see people without any labels, I think
the world can be a much better place.
